Mij husband and I, we went for a trip of ten days through Ireland. It was a very nice trip, we did the ring of Kerry and we visited a lot of places till we went to Dublin, where we should stay a few days. After that, we should go back by boat and then we could see something of England too.
When we where at a hotel, I mean it was in Tipperary, we were looking around the hotel, before we traveled to the next place. There was a very nice garde an on a couch there sat an olther couple. We greeted them, and the older man began to speak to us. He asked me where we were from. So I told him, we were from Holland. We made a trip through Ireland, our greatest wish.
He began to speak, yes, this was their firs vacation too. They never ever had a vacation, because he had his own bakery. His wife helped him al those years. Now he was almost 80 years old and his wife was al little younger. They had two children, both of them where married and had a good job, but they didn't want to come in the bakery of their father, so he must sell his place. He was dissapointed, but he respected te choice of his sons.
But there was no one, who wanted the bakery, so he stayed on working in it, til a few months ago. Then there was a man who was interested. He bought his bakery, and he stayed a little longer to help him, for the first months. But then, he promised his wife, to go on a nice vacation, she always wanted to visit Ireland. So now it was the time.
When he was talking, I saw a tear in his eye, he took his handkerchief and wiped it away. "Well", he said, "this will probebly be te last vacation too", he took his handkerchief again and his wife rook his hand. She looked at him with a lot of love in her eyes. "When we booked our vacation, my wife wasn't feeling wel, so we went to a doctor. He told us, that she hasn't very long to live anymore, she has cancer, all over her body. They can't do anything anymore for her".
I was speechless.
And then, there was a yell at us: we're going now! The touringcar was ready and we were espected to come into the bus.
I turned around, gave the man and his wife a hand and a kiss and I waved them goodbye.....
